Reception/Security Officer – Day

Contract: Permanent
Full-Time: 40 hours per week
Starting Salary: £24,178 pro rata + competitive benefits

About the Position

As the first point of contact, the reception/security officer is responsible for dealing with members of the public in a polite and efficient manner. A key responsibility of the reception/security officer is to assist the Australian High Commission in supporting the physical security of Australia House, our employees and visitors. 

 

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Meet and greet, assist with/respond to queries from internal and external clients in a professional, customer service focused manner.
  • Act as a “continuity” officer; ensuring relevant messages are conveyed to all oncoming shift and casual guards.
  • Provide security and guarding services at the Australian High Commission
  • Monitor the Visitor Management System (VMS) and emails. Receive visitors and contact the relevant officer who will escort visitors to the appropriate office, including ensuring relevant security procedures are undertaken for visitors into the High Commission.
  • Monitor CCTV, Fire and Alarm systems, and report all incidents to the supervisor.  Assist with safe evacuation of staff, and maintain security of the building thereafter.
  • Take responsibility for the administration, issue and return of all keys, passes and radios.
  • Conduct internal and external patrols as directed. 
  • Assist with evening events as required. 

 

Qualifications/Experience

Essential

  • A detailed understanding of reception work, access control, patrolling and use of IT systems.
  • Well presented, with excellent customer facing skills in particular a polite, calm disposition, flexible and discreet attitude.
  • Customer Service skills must be of a high standard as the role requires you to engage with staff, visitors and members of the public.
  • Previous Corporate Receptionist or Corporate Security experience.
  • Reliability, self-motivation and ability to use own initiative and work without supervision.

Desirable

  • X-Ray operation and interpretation to SIA standard.
  • Experience monitoring CCTV, and the ability to provide Audio and Written Evidence of security breaches, up to an evidential standard expected within the Courts. 
  • Experience in day to day operation of fire systems.
  • Security Industry Association training.
  • First aid and AED trained.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
     
  2. Ability to use word processing equipment, databases, and computer networks efficiently; knowledge of Microsoft Word essential.
     
  3. Good timekeeping, high levels of accuracy and good attention to detail.
     
  4. Ability to contribute to effective team environment, demonstrate flexibility and the willingness to cover for team members duties as required.
     
  5. Ability to deal with members of the public in a personable, polite and effective manner. Able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy to deal with people in all circumstances including during emergencies and at other times of stress.
