Scam Email Alert

Please be advised that the Australian High Commission in London is unable to verify the legitimacy of any email received in regard to Lotto winnings. If you receive an email claiming that the Australian High Commission has verified your win with the Lotto organisation then it is a fraudulent email that has not originated from our office and should not be responded to.

To genuinely win the Lotto, you will have purchased a ticket from an authorised Lotto agent and you will never be requested to transfer funds up-front in order to claim your prize, and you will not be requested to provide your bank account details via email.

Other types of scam emails currently in circulation may tell you that you are the unexpected beneficiary of a will, or seek your help in moving money out of another country, or may offer you shares or investments.   Scams often have similar features that may alert you to the fact that they are not genuine:

  • if it sounds too good to be true it probably is
  • you are asked for money up front to pay unexpected fees (such as customs or taxes) before your 'prize' can be released
  • you are asked to provide your bank account, credit card details or other sensitive personal information
  • you are put under pressure to reply immediately or the money will be given to someone else
  • you are asked to keep the details secret.

If you receive emails to this effect they are a scam.
