Applying for or renewing your passport
Adult - renewal application
• You were at least 16 years old when your last passport was issued;
• Your last passport expired in 2016 or later;
• Your last passport was valid for two or more years;
• You are not changing your name, gender, date of birth, or place of birth;
• Your last passport is not lost, stolen, damaged, or cancelled
Adult - new application
• First Australian passport as an adult (18 and over)
• First adult passport, where your last one was issued when you were 15 years old or younger
• New passport to replace a lost or stolen passport
• New passport to replace an emergency passport
• Renewing a passport that expired before 2016
Child - renewal application
Children (aged 15 or below)
• the child must have previously held an Australian passport
Children aged 16-17 are not eligible for postal renewals. They must apply for their first adult passport in-person.
Child - new application
For children who have not previously held an Australian passport, children aged 16 and 17 years, and children who otherwise do not meet the eligibility requirements for a renewal application.
Changing name and/or gender
For those applying for an Australian passport in a name and/or gender that is different to their previous passport. Also for those applying for their first Australian passport in a name and/or gender that is different to their Australian birth/citizenship certificate.
Urgent travel/emergency passports
For those who have urgent travel booked in the next three weeks.
